Creating Strategic Organizational Frameworks:
The Journey to Creating Culture

Categories: TAHRA Program Meeting

Presented by Jeff Wilkie
Hogan Taylor Advisory Services

"Organizational culture is civilization in the workplace." - Alan Adler

Culture is consistent, observable patterns of behavior in organizations. Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do." This view elevates repeated behavior or habits as the core of culture and deemphasizes what people feel, think or believe. It also focuses our attention on the forces that shape behavior in organizations. Culture is a carrier of meaning. Cultures provide not only a shared view of "what is" but also of "why is." In this view, culture is about "the story" in which people in the organization are embedded, and the values and rituals that reinforce that narrative. If you asked someone in your organization what their values were, some would be able to identify these. Others would struggle to verbalize these critical makers of corporate success. Many organizations need to formally identify and secure these values to insure that they manage important cultural behaviors.

Jeff Wilkie is an expert in culture creation and sustainment. Through his 20+ years of experience he will provide a step by step process for establishing these cultural indicators and the methods by which you can measure and manage "the story." He has case study examples and a process through which you can define this for yours or any organization.

At this program you will:

  • Understand what culture is, relevance to the current organization and the importance of catching the narrative and putting into action.
  • Discuss and develop a process for capturing performance indicators and translating into actionable behaviors that can be measured and coached appropriately.
  • Determine 3-4 steps to begin measuring the culture and tying to performance management principles.

Jeff Wilkie has made a career in organizational development strategies for the last 25 years. His human capital career spans oil and gas industries, telecommunications, health-care management, not for profits and governmental entities.

He leads the Human Capital and Organizational Strategies niche under Hogan Taylor Advisory Services. Jeff works as a confidante and coach to organizational executive teams and assists in the focus and formulation of a company's human capital strategies. Jeff spent a large part of his career facilitating sessions and retreats related to crafting organizational frameworks and the cultures that provide the fuel for success.
