President's Message
Welcome to the Tulsa Area Human Resources Association (TAHRA) website. I have been elected to serve as the 2010 President of TAHRA and am honored to serve our membership in this capacity. We have an extraordinary group of professionals who have volunteered to serve the membership and their profession with Intent, Innovation and Impact and I could not be more eager to start the new year and see the great things that 2010 will bring for us as an organization.
With each new year we prepare as individuals to turn a page on another chapter in our lives. With this preparation comes anticipation and optimism through resolutions and the ever present hope that the new year will bring opportunity and wild successes for ourselves and those we love. Oscar Wilde once said, Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result. I honestly believe with the phenomenal leaders we have had over the course of TAHRA's lifespan, we have set ourselves up with the conditions and we are on the verge of that wild success as an organization. "But how do we get there?" you ask, by moving forward with Intent, Innovation and Impact.
As I mentioned, I have been elected to serve as the President of TAHRA and I fully expect 2010 to be a successful year. That having been said, without an involved membership there is no success for our organization. So, I appeal to each one of you- our 500+ members as well as our community compatriots- search with INTENT to find opportunities in our organization to be active and engaged. I challenge you to approach each opportunity with INNOVATION so we as an organization can create opportunities with IMPACT for our entire community.
Our goal for 2010 as a Board and as an organization is to reach out to our membership as well as our community and find what is important to them. We will organize our events with INTENT and be INNOVATIVE in our collaboration with other community organizations and by doing so, we will create an IMPACT in our community. As a Board, we expect to create this impact in our community with a set of strategic initiatives: We will provide high-value resources to our membership; We will position ourselves globally in our local environment; & We will continue to be Advisors and Advocates by reaching out to our senior level HR executives, business leaders and non-HR professionals.
Now, more than ever, we as a country, a community and even as individuals have been asked to do more with less. We as an organization understand that whatever time each of you have, your education and volunteerism hours need to be well spent on things that impact your personal and professional life. This is why our focus is Intent, Innovation and Impact. One of our charitable collaborations will be with the United Way and on their website they note, Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We want to assist in the change our community for the better and create a change that will leave that a strong impression on our audience (i.e. our Community), so they'll pass it on to others in their network, who'll then do the same. We hope this allows the Tulsa Area Human Resource Association, in conjunction with SHRM, to become the association you turn to as a Advisor and Advocate for education, networking, and volunteerism.
Jennifer Shultz, MBA, PHR
2010 President
