Frequently Asked Questions

What is SHRM?

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world's largest professional association devoted to human resource management. Our mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most current and comprehensive resources, and to advance the profession by promoting HR's essential, strategic role. Founded in 1948, SHRM represents more than 250,000 individual members in over 140 countries, and has a network of more than 575 affiliated chapters in the United States, as well as offices in China and India.

SHRM has more than 575 affiliate chapters both in the United States and abroad, and provide additional programming and networking opportunities in your local area. SHRM chapters are autonomous organizations, so it is not automatic that you will be a member of your local chapter when you join SHRM at the national level, and vice versa.

What are the benefits of belonging to SHRM and TAHRA?

Membership in a SHRM affiliated chapter (TAHRA) means access to a local network of HR professionals, as well as professional development programs, products, and services in your community that can broaden your skills and make you more valuable to your organization. There are resources and services through SHRM that local chapters cannot possibly duplicate, and there are resources through TAHRA that SHRM can't provide. Maximize your opportunities by becoming a member of SHRM and TAHRA.

What are Program Meetings and Learning Labs?

Program Meetings are a lunch meeting featuring workshops and programs on relevant and timely HR topics. This allows members to increase their knowledge in functional areas and to grow as a professional. This is also a great time to meet your peers and form professional relationships with others in the Tulsa Area. The cost for a member to attend a Program Meeting is $20.00.

Learning Labs are a 2 hour intensive course unique to TAHRA. They are an afternoon meeting that feature programs that provide “how to” tools. These are intensive courses designed to educate and update members on details of critical issues in HR. The cost for a member to attend a Learning Lab is $15.00.

Both Program Meetings and Learning Labs are typically submitted for review by the HR Certification Institute for  possible continuing education credits for PHR, SPHR and GPHR certifications.

When is my membership due?

All memberships are due at the beginning of the calendar year, regardless of registration date. Memberships expire 12/31 of the current year.
