Why become certified?

Certification is an essential tool for maintaining high professional standards and shows that you have accepted the personal challenge to stay abreast of new developments in the human resource field. Beyond experience and education, it is a primary measure of knowledge in the HRM field. Certification is available from two organizations: SHRM and HRCI.

SHRM Certification

SHRM has introduced two new certifications that assess both competencies and HR knowledge - the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). HR professionals who implement policies and strategies, serve as point of contact for staff and stakeholders, deliver HR services, and perform operational HR functions, should take the SHRM-CP exam. HR professionals who develop strategies, lead the HR function, foster influence in the community, analyze performance metrics, and align HR strategies to organizational goals, should take the SHRM-SCP exam.  Continue Reading »

 

HRCI Certification

The HR Certification Institute offers three core certifications: Professional in Human Resources (PHR©), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR©) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR©). The PHR exam focuses on the technical and operational aspects of human resource practices, U.S. laws and regulations. The SPHR exam focuses on the strategic and policy-making aspects of HR management in the United States.
