Accounting - Payroll Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Accounting/Payroll Specialist is responsible for all payroll functions as well as assisting in the accounting department. This includes compiling and recording employee time and payroll data, onboarding/paperwork for all new employees, utilizing all aspects of the HRIS system, assisting with accounts receivable and accounts payable, posting GL entries, assisting with the annual church pledge campaign and other areas of the accounting department.

Boston Avenue is a $3M+ operating budget with 40 employees. This position works with the Accounting Department, HR Consultant and other Directors as needed. The Accounting/Payroll Specialist is part of the church staff and will be given the opportunity to participate as they desire in events throughout the year.

Detailed Description:

EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with General Ledger entries
  • Assists with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Assists Director of Finance with annual pledge campaign
  • Processes online giving records
  • Completes all tasks necessary to monitor and oversee payroll process
  • Conducts onboarding for new hires so that all federal, state and local compliance is achieved
  • Submits all federal and state regulatory reports and ensures compliance
  • Conducts background checks for all new hires and/or current staff as needed
  • Processes and issues employee paychecks and W2s
  • Conducts benefit meetings and enrollments with new employees and assists with Open Enrollment

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in bookkeeping and/or accounting.
  • Familiarity with payroll and HRIS systems required.
  • Familiarity with benefits and paperwork for new employees.
  • 3+ years’ experience working with payroll and HRIS systems preferred.
  • Support for and adherence to the beliefs and practices of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree and non-profit fund/church experience preferred.
