Presented by Andrew Malahowski, Joshua Tanusaputra, and Travis Jones

Many Americans will experience a large life transition this year, whether it is through retirement or through job elimination. Employers face challenges when these workers are displaced or retire.

The “Silver Wave” is here.  About 4.1 million Americans will turn 65 this year, more than 11,000 each day.  This presentation will provide the fundamental principles that govern health and welfare benefits and benefit continuation for a range of employment, leave, and termination scenarios.

Together, outplacement and retirement coaching offers a holistic approach to career transitions, ensuring that individuals not only navigate their immediate challenges but also lay the groundwork for a prosperous and satisfying future.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn about the complexities of navigating career transitions. They will gain insights into the emotional, psychological, and practical challenges faced during these periods and understand the importance of comprehensive support in overcoming these obstacles.
  • Participants will learn how to handle separations with dignity and respect: participants will learn how to prepare, communicate, and handle logistics with sensitivity.
  • Participants will gain an understanding on how to develop a comprehensive retirement planning approach by navigating their career, family, leisure, personal development, health and wellness, finances, and their legacy.
  • Understand how plan eligibility rules and employer shared responsibility rules intersect.
  • Consider benefit options and rules for severance programs, executive agreements, and retirement.
  • Explore the benefits implications of employee leaves of absence, from active coverage to FMLA to COBRA.
At this lab, lunch will be provided to attendees.
