Benefits Specialist

We are seeking a skilled benefits specialist to join our Human Resources team. The candidate will function as the administrator for our employee benefits program, serve as the primary point of contact for our employees, and collaborate with benefit vendors to provide the best care possible to the ORU work community.

To be successful in this position, the benefits specialist should have excellent organizational skills and a solid understanding of various benefits processes. Top candidates will also be strong communicators, able to explain relevant legal and tax information to employees, and comfortable collaborating with internal and external parties.

Detailed Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advises faculty and staff on all aspects of benefits programs, such as medical, dental, STD, LTD, ADD, Vol. Life., Voluntary Coverages, IRS section 125, COBRA, Retirement Plans, Medicare and other associated benefits, as available.
  • Works closely with retirement vendors, working with them to develop programs and processes for effective implementation and communication.
  • Attends and contributes to Administrative Committee Meetings.
  • Coordinates with General Accounting, Treasury and Accounts Payable to process weekly ACH Drafts and monthly Benefits Billings.
  • Communicating with insurance and savings providers to resolve issues.
  • Conducting presentations that educate employees about their benefits.
  • Informing employees about any changes to the benefits structure.
  • Ensuring the company's benefits and leave-of-absence policies comply with the law.

Qualifications/Requirements

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Human Resources, Business, Marketing, etc) is preferred, but not required; accredited human resources certification holders will receive top consideration.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 4-5 years of benefits-specific experience required.

  • Quickly establishes and maintains rapport with administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Works cooperatively with a variety of personalities.
  • Must be able to articulate thoughts well for the purpose of effectively communicating information one-on-one, and in a group setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Has a displayed ability to be a self-starter and see tasks through to completion.
  • Must have the ability to handle the stress associated with meeting deadlines while working on several projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment regarding organizational and departmental regulations, procedures and policies.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times especially for the purpose of receiving and responding to inquiries, and transmitting information.
  • Must accept and be openly supportive of the purposes and goals associated with Oral Roberts University.
