QPR Gatekeeper Training offered free to TAHRA Members

Suicide ranks eleventh as the leading cause of death in the U.S.  Suicide rate among youth (ages 15-24) have increased more than 20% in the last fifty years.  Suicide occurs across all ethnic, economic, social, and age boundaries.  Many suicides are preventable and intervention can be learned just like CPR.  An evidenced-based type of intervention model is QPR Gatekeeper Training, designed to help you help someone who maybe considering suicide.  QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer.  This training is not intended to be a form of counseling or treatment.  It is intended to teach those who are in a position to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communication of people in trouble to ACT proactively to prevent a possible tragedy.  This 90-minute training is offered free to TAHRA members and their organization (minimum of 25 per training session).  If you are interested, please contact Belen Burkhalter, PhD, CRC at eat0@eau0eav0eaw0, tel. nos. 633.1915.  Dr. Burkhalter is a Certified QPR instructor and TAHRA's Workforce Chair.
